What can kids do in Cobh Ireland? This question is often ask in travel forums and so today i like to share my local recommendation on this blog. Parents and visitors with kids visit Cobh all year round, but for the sake of this post i would assume that they would be visiting during non Winter months. The four places mentioned below are open for business and ideal to visit during this times, but if you are not sure, check out their seasonal schedules.
Titanic Experience
Educate your kids with the significance of Titanic history in Cobh. The town is the last port of call of the ill-fated cruise liner. What better way to learn about this maritime disaster than a visit to the Titanic Experience Museum, which is where the original White Star Line Ticket office was. Your entrance comes with a facsimile ticket of the passenger who boarded in Queenstown (old name of Cobh) in 1912, and at the end of the visit, you would know if the passenger survived or not.
Spike Island
Named one of the top attractions not just in Cork but the whole of Ireland, Spike Island is a former prison, military fortress, once a thriving community and a monastery. Kids would enjoy the short ferry ride on the way and back. There’s also a guided tour or if you prefer, walk around as you explore the vast area of the fortress, have a picnic or do a nature stroll around its surroundings. There are kids-themed activities and festivals throughout the year so do check their website for upcoming events.
Fota Zoo and Wildlife Park
Who doesn’t like a trip to the zoo? Just a short train ride away from Cobh, the zoo is a wonderland for kids who love animals. Fota Zoo carries some of the amazing animals from around the world; some favorite mainstays are the giraffe, lion, zebra, cheetah, rhino and many more.
Playground
Follow the walkway away from town and you will find this lovely playground in Five Foot Way. Strolling along the Waterfront next to the grand view of Cork Harbour is one of the most beautiful thing you can do in Cobh. This locals-maintained playground is near the exercise machines and the camper van parking. This is popular with kids and sometimes students with their teachers, and is always open.
