A Spring Walk to Cobh Little Library

Posted on June 13, 2022June 13, 2022 by Jay

The road to Cobh Little Library is paved with good intentions and also a beautiful view. In this light post, i like to take you on a side trip to the other side of town. The Cobh Little Library is located on the direction of Titanic Memorial Garden and is a short 12 minutes walk from Cobh Town Centre.

From Harbour Row, the start of the uphill stroll would let you passed some of Cobh’s local shops before it open up to Connoly Street and the Cork Harbour on your right. Continue your walk on the designated footpath and feel the breeze from the ocean as you approach the beach shores at The Mall and also the small port at Battery Strand. The picture below is the winding entrance to The Mall Beach if you feel like getting close to the water. There is also a red bench near here if you want to rest and just take in the view.

At this point, you have already reached the gate of the Port of Cork Operation Centre, and as you can see our Little Library is right in front of this Port of Cork structure, and beyond that is the Titanic Memorial Garden.

Cobh has its big library, well not so big actually, but this little brother has a unique and honest borrowing system. 1) Bring a book or take a book, never leave book outside. 2) Read and bring back the book you have borrowed.

Because this is post written and photographed on Spring, i also like to highlight the wildflower haven on the hilly patch right across the Little Library. Birds, bees, butterflies and other insects are also a common sight on this wild garden so keep your eyes open to watch them.

Since you come all the way to the Little Library, why not go to the Titanic Memorial Garden too and pay your respects to the unfortunate passengers of the Titanic. You can read all the 123 passengers from Cobh on the Glass Memorial at the center of the garden. I hope you have an enjoyable and scenic walk leading up to this place. Thank you and see you in the next post.
