Christmas Swim in Cork Ireland is not what you would expect to do on a Christmas morning, but for the brave swimmers in Cuskinny Cobh, a cold swim is as exciting as opening presents from Santa.
On this dry December 25th late morning, patches of clouds are hovering and the horizon is shining moodily as the light wintry winds greet the crowd at Cuskinny beach. Swimmers, dippers and watchers gather to celebrate the yearly tradition of Christmas Swim, not just in Cobh but the whole of Ireland.
Swimmers, young and old, are participating to raise funds for the Cobh Community Hospital. This is the 38th time this event is being held to benefit the hospital. The donation is going to be used “to enhance the quality of life for the residents and patients in Cobh Community hospital”.
At 11:30, the countdown to the swim began and it was pure joy to see them edge to the shore and then run to the water. Wishing you all a Happy Christmas and thank you again for reading.
